Wouldn’t you agree?

“We live in a changing and uncertain world, wouldn’t you agree?” This question is familiar to all, who have attended my countless, numbers of seminars, speeches, and workshops through the years. This question, and the veracity of it, is clearly evident as we observe the news coming from around the world. Yes, change is constant and uncertainty is exponential. The number one human fear is not of death, as many believe, but rather the fear of the unknown future. Obviously, the future can never be known but the issues related to it can be clarified. The role of leadership is to provide that clarity, direction, and a sense of capability. We want reassurance that there is a strong leader with a clear vision of the future and one who is capable of guiding us.

The military action in Libya is an example of the need for leadership. Action is being taken but what is the strategy? How will progress and success be measured? What results would represent an ideal outcome?  The future of this involvement is unclear. This uncertainty evokes a sense of fear about the future. Leadership is the key to answering the questions and to alleviating the fear.

The same emotions, fears, and needs pervade in our client relationships. Remember the core question that I introduced in previous posts, “Will we be all right?” As a financial professional, you are a leader, providing clarity around the issues regarding financial wellbeing. You provide direction and a map of the journey to financial security. It is a ‘magnificent obsession’ to commit to helping others attain financial security in the face of a rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain world.
