“Will we be all right?”

You probably have heard me refer to this immeasurably important question many times. It is being asked in my family, right now. Our younger daughter’s husband was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the end of January. It was caught early and there are expectations of a full cure. However, that doesn’t mean that it is any easier or less frightening. He has had three, all-day, chemotherapy treatments and will now undergo a month of daily radiation treatments. This medical problem came out of the clear-blue into the life of a healthy young man and into the lives of his wife and two young daughters. Indeed, it has entered into all our lives. Life will never be the same, as before the diagnosis.

It is not my intention to visit this family medical crisis upon you, but rather to help you recognize how quickly things can change. The all important question, “Will we be all right?” was one of the first thoughts on everyone’s mind but especially for our daughter and our son-in-law. It reminds me of how immeasurably important our work is.

Our chosen career puts us in a position of being able to help people prepare for life altering events such as this. Sometimes these situations don’t turn out so well. Financial issues abound. Even with a full cure and recovery, there are medical costs to be dealt with. Insurance is great but there are always leftovers. Wow, just take a minute to reflect on the value that financial services professionals offer! People everywhere need your help. Get out there and do as much as you possibly can to help them. Help them attain comfort in knowing that financially, they will be all right.

Do it now!
