Why?

The current approach to achievement in business is so often focused on what and how. The question why is often overlooked. You may ask if it is really important to know why? I am convinced that it is immeasurably important. Wanting to know why is part of our essence. It becomes a part of what others (clients, colleagues, family, friends) think of when they view our actions and us.

Our, beliefs, values, and visions, shape our behaviors and ultimately determine our habits and what we pay attention to. We take actions and expect results. Why is it important to do these things? Ask yourself, why you are taking this approach? Why is it worth doing now? Learn to listen to your reasons and how they connect to your vision of your ideal future.

Here’s the value of asking why. When working with your clients, help them to discover why they want to accomplish their stated goals. Go behind what and how to get to their vision of their ideal future.  Help them discover for themselves why it is important to achieve their goals. They will value your advice and guidance to a greater degree when they understand your real motive is helping them reach their vision. Why you do what you do, and how your clients feel, is far more important than what you do.

We’ll explore this topic more fully in future posts. But for now, just start asking, why?
