Torched!
Those of you, who know me personally, may be aware of my life-long addiction to playing acoustic guitar. I love composing my own music, performing occasionally, and recording when I have the time. (Some of you may have one or two of my CD’s.) Michael Hedges was my all-time guitar idol. Michael was such an innovative musician, who inspired many guitar players with his unique style and technique. Just as his career was starting to skyrocket, a fatal auto accident in 1997 took his life. His influence does live on, however. You may be wondering what this has to do with our career path. Just read on and let’s make the connection.
Michael was torched. This was his word, used to describe a state of heightened physical/spiritual awareness that he aspired to and worked toward. He defined Torched as a state of being on fire with an all-consuming creative life-energy. I have used that understanding of the internal fire of creativity for years and Michael was the first person I ever met who felt the same way. He expressed it better than I have, but his description has stuck with me. My hope is that I have conveyed this description and ultimate feeling to all of you.
Finally, what has this to do with being a life insurance professional? Everything! We, too, must achieve a state of being on fire with a burning desire to accomplish and to achieve for providing unparalleled results for our clients. We must commit to focusing our fire on solving their problems and assuring them that, with our help, they will indeed “be all right.”
