The Master Game
We are playing the master game . . . the game of life. Our opponent is the Resistance. Resistance is that ever-present force that is in direct opposition to accomplishment. It appears in many forms; procrastination, avoidance, worry, failure to take action, fears of all types, etc. This resistance is our nemesis.
This is a real game, in the sense that there are opponents, goals, score keeping, a winner and a loser. The difference is that we are playing for keeps, winner takes all. It is a game that must be played and replayed. Just like the movie, “Groundhog Day”, we start all-over again every morning – same game. The question is, who will win on this day?
The best way to take control of your life is to clearly identify your Definite Chief Aim:
- What do you want?
- When do you want it?
- What will you do in exchange for achieving it?
The key to defeating the Resistance is to be a professional. Apply your life energy to the achievement of your Definite Chief Aim every day. Remember, this is the game of life and you are playing for keeps! It is not the place for amateurs or those who don’t take the game seriously.
Success can be defined as incremental progress toward a worthy goal: in this case the attainment of your Definite Chief Aim and the fulfillment of your potential.
Let’s apply this understanding to the game of prospecting. As a life insurance professional, the only way to achieve your Definite Chief Aim is to be a consistent producer; to do this, you need a steady stream of qualified prospects. The game of professional prospecting must be engaged in, every day. To win in this game, you must prospect effectively and consistently, every day. The Resistance will attempt to stop you when you seem to have enough prospects for the moment. It may entice you to take a day off! Don’t listen to that siren call! Your life depends upon consistent prospecting for you to have an abundant supply of qualified prospects ready to meet with you.
Suit up. Get in the game! Decide to be a winner every day.
