More than enough?

Ask people what they want and the answer is always more.  More of anything and everything.  In fact, they don’t want more, they want it all.

Let’s think about this in regard to money.  Most people need enough.  Enough to prevent problems, pain, loss, and suffering.  Enough to pay bills and meet expenses.  True needs are essential, consequently they are must haves.  Needs have built-in motivation; get what you need or there are painful consequences.  Wants, on the other hand, are non-essential and therefore optional.  If you don’t get what you want, there is no painful consequence only disappointment.  Most people get what they need because they have to.  A few fail to get even the minimum of what they need.

All human achievement is the result of discontent and dissatisfaction with their current situation.  In order to get what you want, which is beyond what you need, you must become dissatisfied with merely having enough.  You must then transform wants into needs.  The simplest way to do that is to accept responsibility for being held accountable for meeting a new, higher set of standards.

Commission-based life insurance professionals or fee-based planners are personally responsible for their production results and earnings.  Most meet some minimum production standards and satisfy their needs.  Only a few consistently exceed those minimums.  What can explain this difference?  For top producers, enough is never enough.  Just getting by and meeting financial obligations is not their idea of success.

Don’t sit there aimlessly reading the above.  Close the door, turn off the phone, and most of all engage your mind.  Start with a very clear image of what you are attempting to achieve.

1. What is your vision?

2. What are you attempting to accomplish?

3. What are your goals and where are you today in relation to attaining them?

Quantify and qualify your desire to have more than enough.  Clarity of purpose and a sustainable focus on exactly what you want, will help keep you on track.  Then, establish three major goals for each quarter.  Track your results and adjust as necessary to make sure you are moving toward your ultimate objective.  Before engaging in any activity, ask yourself if it will move you closer to your goal or away from it.  Now, get up, go out, and make something happen!

Get a journal, just for the purpose of tracking your results.  I not only dare you, but I challenge you to this mental exercise.  E-mail me or call me with your results or discussion of this mind game.  After all, it starts in your mind.

Do you have more than enough?
